Why the coating matters

Foam roofing systems are excellent for energy efficiency and insulation, but they are not built to sit exposed to the elements. The elastomeric coating is the shield. It seals the foam from UV, water intrusion and physical wear.

A good coating prevents leaks, reduces thermal absorption and protects the structural integrity of the roof. By reflecting sunlight it keeps the building cooler and takes strain off the HVAC system, which lowers energy costs. It also heads off the moisture damage and surface deterioration that turn into expensive repairs when they are left alone.

Acrylic or silicone

Both protect the foam underneath, but they behave differently.

  • Acrylic: cost-effective and widely used, with good UV protection. Works well in moderate conditions but breaks down faster in extremes.
  • Silicone: more durable, with excellent resistance to ponding water, UV and weathering. Lasts longer, costs more.

Choosing the right one

Not all coatings are equal. Brand quality, material composition and how it is applied all change how it performs. We work with products we trust and match the coating type to your specific roofing system and to the climate it has to survive.
