What it is

Cellulose insulation is an environmentally friendly, cost-effective alternative to spray foam insulation, made from recycled paper. It can be used throughout a home to improve comfort and efficiency, and it works in attics, walls, ceilings and floors.

It fills small gaps and voids to form a dense, effective barrier rather than leaving the thermal gaps that batts tend to.

Why people choose it

  • Lower energy bills: it fills gaps tightly and holds indoor temperature, so the HVAC runs less
  • Fire and mould resistance: treated with boric acid for Class I fire resistance
  • Noise reduction: its density blocks sound through walls and floors, by up to 60 percent
  • Pest deterrent: the boric acid treatment also discourages insects

Is it right for your project

Not always. It depends on the space, the existing insulation and what you are trying to fix. Tell us what the problem is, a hot room, a loud one, a high bill, and we will tell you whether cellulose is the answer or whether something else is.
